Hannah
Benton, JD
Staff Attorney, TeamChild Juvenile Justice Project; Truancy Court Prevention Project
Hannah works with the Center's TeamChild Juvenile Justice Project and on the Truancy Court Prevention Project
(TCPP), helping children and youth stay in school by addressing the
root causes of academic issues and attendance problems.
In addition to individual case work, Hannah works on systemic issues faced by children involved in the status offender and juvenile justice systems, including access to education, mental health services and diversionary programs. Hannah was counsel on administrative class complaints which resulted in class-wide relief for students in Hartford's self-contained special education programs, many of whom became court-involved due to school-based arrests or truancy. Along with the Center's Director, Martha Stone, Hannah co-authored a chapter on accessing intervention services for status offenders in the American Bar Association's book Representing Juvenile Status Offenders.
Hannah graduated from
the University of Chicago and Yale Law School. She was an Equal Justice America Fellow at the Center for Children's Advocacy from 2008 through 2010.
