The Fairfield County Community Foundation announced a challenge grant to support the
Center for Children’s Advocacy’s work with the poorest and most needy children. The grant
will double your donation to support these vulnerable children.

The Center brings legal services to children and youth in the poorest communities in Bridgeport and Stamford. Preventing truancy and helping children resolve issues that keep them from
school achievement is the primary goal of this effort.

Children supported by the Center for Children’s Advocacy suffer from abuse or neglect,
domestic violence, bullying, homelessness, lack of access to healthcare or mental health care, substandard housing, lack of heat or electricity, lack of access to appropriate educational supports.

In Bridgeport, the dropout rate is more than 30%. In Stamford, the dropout rate is over 20%.

This dedicated effort improves educational success for children attending schools in the
poorest neighborhoods, where dropout rates are significantly greater than those of their more affluent peers – and this can be directly attributed to the social and environmental stressors that they face daily.

The Center’s offices on-site at Bridgeport’s Harding High School, the Youth Services Bureau in Stamford and Bridgeport’s Jettie Tisdale School bring legal advocacy directly to the children who need our help. CCA attorneys go to group homes and shelters to help youth living there learn where to turn for the support they need.

Your support for this program is critical to its success – and your donation will be
matched by this generous grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation.

Thank you for your generous support.
