Lawyers at the Center for Children's Advocacy go where children need them most.
Built on the belief that every child, no matter the circumstances, deserves justice, equity and access, the Center promotes and protects the legal rights of Connecticut's poorest and most vulnerable children.
With a long and ongoing record of challenging policies and practices that threaten the well-being of disadvantaged children, the Center for Children's Advocacy is recognized for its unwavering pursuit of child-positive change at all levels of the state system.
Our mission is to promote and protect the legal
rights and interests of poor children who are dependent upon the
judicial, child welfare, health and mental health, education, and
juvenile justice systems for their care. The Center employs a number of methods to achieve
this, including:
- individual legal representation
- systemic advocacy
- training for attorneys and child
advocates
- administrative advocacy
- legislative advocacy
- consultation
An interdisciplinary approach
contributes immensely to the understanding of children's issues, and
the Center is committed to working in partnership with experts and
policy analysts to develop solutions that meet the complex
challenges of interlocking systems.
CCA staff co-authored an article entitled, "Providing
Holistic Legal Services to Children in Their Communities."
Although children living in poverty need service-delivery systems
that give care in a responsive and integrated manner, service delivery
traditionally has been compartmentalized. CCA provides holistic
legal services to children in their communities; and, improves the
quality of legal representation of children through innovative interdisciplinary
models and training programs.
The Center for Children's Advocacy, established in 1997, is non-profit law firm.
