Remand:
Termination of Parental Rights, Best Interests
On remand
from the Supreme Court, the appellate court upheld the trial court’s
finding that it was in the best interest of the child for the mother’s
parental rights to be terminated. The court found that the trial
court had considered and made written findings with respect to the
seven factors laid out in Conn. Gen. Stat. § 17a-112 (k) and that
those findings were supported by evidence in the record. The court
noted that it is not its function to weigh the evidence or to examine
the record or determine whether another trier of fact might have
reached a different conclusion. The court declined to substitute
its evaluation of the evidence for that of the trial court.
