An exciting new electronic discussion service for attorneys representing children and/or parents in abuse and neglect cases or families with service needs cases.

The sharing of knowledge, experiences, struggles, and suggestions is vital to improving the quality of the services we provide.

  • Have you ever relied almost exclusively on a brochure and the assurances of a social worker to determine whether a mental health placement was in your client's best interests?

  • Have you ever had an evidentiary legal issue arise in one of your cases, creating an immediate need for legal research?

  • Have you ever had difficulty deciding whether to ask the court to appoint a separate guardian ad litem to represent your client's best interests?

  • Have you ever identified a systemic issue affecting your child clients and found that you did not know how to go about changing the system or publicizing the problem?

Once you have subscribed to the list:

  • To send messages to the ListServ, which will be distributed to all members of the list, all you have to do is send that message to KIDS_COUNSEL-L@LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU.

  • If you want to respond publicly to a message you have received from the ListServ, you can just use the 'Reply' button in your e-mail program and the message will be sent to the list. Remember, this reply will be sent to every member of the list, not just the person who sent the message.

  • To respond privately to someone, make a note of their e-mail address (it should appear in the 'From' line in your e-mail program) and forward the message to their address, which you will need to manually enter in the 'To' box in your e-mail program.

  • You can view all KidsCounsel ListServ postings from the past year in a convenient 'threaded discussion' format on the web. So, even if you've deleted a ListServ posting, or you want to read an entire thread on your own time (instead of when the message arrives), the messages are easily available. You can even search the available postings. Just visit the KidsCounsel ListServ archive: http://www.kidscounsel.org/listserv/

  • Please note that your subscription will renew annually. Follow the instructions you receive to continue your subscription.

  • You can control your subscription (temporarily stop receiving messages, unsubscribe from the list, change your e-mail address, etc.) to the list by visiting the 'Subscriber's Corner' web page: http://listserv.uconn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=kids_counsel-l
